12th May, 2010 (PP INTRODUCTION)

INTRODUCTION

A. Background
When I see my friends these days, some teens (grade 9 – 10) prefers to eat fast food without realizing that it could damage their health. I know that facing teen’s life is not that easy. They are concern with how they look, depressions, and many more. By this way, it would affect their eating apatite with ending up having eating disorders.

B. Goal
This issue gives me inspiration to make a cook-book that would guide them to eat/drink healthy foods and juices. My personal project goal is to make people realize that they should eat something healthy that are simple and healthy without taking a lot of time. One of the challenge that I could have towards making this project would be to observe what kind of food do teens like and how to change an unhealthy lifestyle to a life that is meaningful and healthy by eating proper food that our body needs. The form used to achieve my goal would be a form of cook-book that consist of at least five different recipes and serve the food. The cook-book it self would be use as a tool to create/prepare a kind of food but then, to make sure that I have a proper content, I need to check weather the way I serve the food could change the apatite to eat and ask an expert to approve weather the food is healthy or not. By this way, my goal is a SMART goal because it is specific, measurable, achievable, and well-timed. I hope by making this project, I could change the way people choose the kind of food they eat.

C. AOI
For this project, I am applying the Areas of Interaction (AOI) which is Health and Social Education (HSE) because the main idea of this project is to make teens aware that they should eat something healthy that are simple and healthy without taking a lot of time. By using the HSE AOI, I would achieve my goal by showing more about having a healthy lifestyle, giving different recipes, testing the recipes, and make teens realize that eating healthy food is important. The guiding questions that I will use in this project are: “How do I think and act?”, “How am I changing?” and “How can I look after myself and others?” From these guidelines, I need to be aware that there will be some key questions that I will need through the project.

D. Plan
This is the activity schedule that I’ve planed in order to achieve my goal.

E. Standard of Success
I could know that my goal is successful when: 1.) there’s at least 50% of the surveyed target audience like the recipes that I put in the cook-book and 2.) ask an expert (ex. Doctor) to check weather the food is a healthy food, if the expert approve at least 50% number of the recipes that I have, it means that I have achieved my goal.

12th May 2010 (PP exhibition)

From today’s activity, I could learn many things from the presentation and exhibition. During the exhibition, I feel hard time because I could not find anyone that has related topic to what I’ve planed. In the end, I end up interviewing three different people: Bertha, Carissa, and Winnie. The reason for me to interview Carissa and Winnie is to know how to print the book because what I hear from people, this year is the best printing so far. They said first, it’s hard for them to find a place to print because some places only wants to print when they want to print a lot of copies but then, they find a place called snappy. To print there we just need to bring our USB and ask them to print. Some of the points that we have to pay attention is to re-check the fonts, and layout before printing. It does not cost much to print a thick book. It’s within the range Rp.50.000 – Rp.100.000. Another tip that they give is to make sure there’s someone to proof-read the content of the book. I also asked Bertha about the struggles and tips for having a successful personal project. As a conclusion, to have a successful personal project, we should be active, always check back to the criteria’s, update blog, do a lot of research, choose topic that makes u interesting, don’t wait up to the last minute, ask for help and many more. I think these tips helped me a lot in getting inspiration to work as hard as I could to achieve the maximum grade I could achieve. Sometimes we feel that the due date is still long but when we have any spare time, we should try to do the PP because we feel that time runs so fast and we have to make sure we use the available time that we could get. As a conclusion, I think we should manage our time wisely, don’t forget to update the blog, make detailed content, and be active.

Appendix 2-INTRODUCTORY QUESTIONNAIRE

Today is the first day where we're introduced for the Personal Project. After listening to the briefing, I think everything would run well when I follow the plan that I've set from the beginning.

To get started for this project, this is one of the things that what we do today...

Cooking, drawing, and basketball…

5. When it comes to writing, what types of written assignments do you most enjoy and why?
i personally like writing especially when there's the guides to the list of things that i should cover. One of the factors could be because of what I'm used to at school especially in DT, english, and many other classes with the writing assignments. So, for me, writing is not something that is really frustrating especially when there's the guidelines.

6. What types of written assignments do you least enjoy and why?
Written assignments that I least enjoy is making fiction because sometimes, it's hard for me to get ideas.

7. Think about your school and wider community. Is there any aspect of your community that really infuriates you? (e.g. perhaps there are not enough trees in your local park?
- People try to find fast and unhealthy food.
- People think they can’t draw but there are some simple ways to draw.
- Some people are confused diving the Bible.

8. At this point in time, what are some of your ideas for your Personal Project? Include what you would like the final result to be and what your goal would be.
- Cooking: make a cook book with the food sample to be surveyed later on. The main goal is to make people realize that they could cook something simple and healthy without taking a lot of time.
- Drawing: make a drawing book with steps and how to color them. The main goal is to make people realize that drawing is not something hard; instead, it’s something to have fun with!
- Biblical: make a book/novel that shows about the New and Old Testament, grace, and other sub-topics. The main goal is to make people realize that divining the Bible in a wrong way is something that are crucial.

9. How will your project ideas relate to the Areas of Interaction: Approaches to Learning, Community Service, Spirituality, Health and Social Education, Human Ingenuity, and Environment?
(Remember, it must relate to at least one area of interaction)
- Cooking book: Human Ingenuity (becasue it's something to do with creating based on our creativity), Health and Social Education (becasue the main goal is to create a healthy food that is easy and simple).
- Drawing book: Approaches to Learning (because it's something that has to do with learning something), Human Ingenuity (because it's something to do with creating based on our creativity).
- Divining the Bible book/novel: Approaches to Learning (because it's something that has to do with learning something), Human Ingenuity (because it's something to do with creating based on our creativity).

10. What are some of the preliminary activities you will need to complete in order to prepare for your personal project?
- What the content will be
- Have a goal that is measurable
- Choose the AOI that sets with the chosen activity
- Make detailed plan for the whole project
- What resources can I have
- Techniques that I need
- What the final product will be

11. How will you research and set about completing the personal project? What are the steps you will take?
- Research
o What is the problem?
o What is the solution towards the problem?
o Other questions (depending on the final topic I choose)
- Building the content
o Reasoning why I choose the resource
o Creating the product
- Testing method (evaluation)
o Does it solve the problem?
o Is the final result successful?

12. Will you involve the community in your project? How?
- Cooking book: Yes it will involve the community by testing the food to make sure they like it or not (How’s the taste of the food? What could be added to the food? How’s the appearance/display? Is it hard? Do you think you will try to make one some day?, etc…).
- Drawing book: Yes it will involve the community by making survey asking: (do they like drawing? What kind of drawings to they usually make? Is drawing hard? Etc..) in the beginning and the end of the project.
- Divining the Bible book/novel: Yes it will involve the community by making survey asking: (How do you read the Bible? What do you feel when you read the Bible? What do you do when you face some confusion when you’re reading the Bible? Etc...)

13. How will you present your personal project (i.e. what format)?
- Cooking book: in a book format so that people could use them when they want to cook and a food display/food testing.
